Yalumba The Cigar Cabernet Sauvignon, Coonawarra 2006

This weeks SMH wine of the week is the Yalumba 'The Cigar' Cabernet Sauvignon, Coonawarra 2006. Huon Hooke writes :-

'A new label from Yalumba, this wine won three trophies including best of show at the 2009 Limestone Coast Wine Show. While the grapes come from the Menzies vineyards, it should not be confused with Yalumba's flagship $55 Coonawarra cabernet, The Menzies.

It's a slightly lighter-framed wine than its big brother, The Menzies '06, with a brilliant combination of bright cabernet fruit and structure. The Menzies may well pull away from it into the future but right now The Cigar is hard to resist.

I wrote one sentence on my trophy judging sheet at the Limestone Coast show: "A complete wine" Drink now to 10-plus years. 94/100.

Food: Braised meats and characterful white-mould and washed-rind cheeses.
