Plan B Frankland River Shiraz 2007

This weeks SMH wine of the week is the Plan B Frankland River Shiraz 2007. Huon Hooke writes:

In case things don't work out you need a plan B. So says veteran West Australian winemaker Bill Crappsley, who makes the Plan B wines in cahoots with two other well-known Margaret River identities. This very well-priced red is a good example of Great Southern shiraz. Spicy and slightly floral, it has a lot of power on the palate (helped by 15% alcohol) and a long, emphatic finish. There's a slightly lactic element to the bouquet but, for under $20, it has generous depth of flavour and concentration, finishing with an authoritative grip. It would come into its own with protein-rich foods. Drink now to eight years plus. 91/100.

Food: All red meats and sausages, roast venison and hard cheeses such as good parmesan.

An astonishing example of Frankland River Shiraz. I discovered the wine at my favourite Italian restaurant in Brisbane - Cosi Ristorante in Clayfield. The owner suggested I try this wine instead of my usual wine The Willows from the Barossa and it doesn't disappoint.
